All teaching in SAMI is done in Finnish. Students are required to have the National Certificate of Language Proficiency, level 3.
A student with immigrant background or a foreign student can apply for upper secondary vocational qualification through the joint national application system with the same criteria as a Finnish student, if he has a school leaving certificate from a Finnish Comprehensive School. If he/she does not have this certificate, the application can be done through the flexible application channel in the joint application system.
To be admitted for basic vocational qualification studies in SAMI a student with immigrant background or a foreign student must have sufficient Finnish language skills. Applicants whose mother tongue is not Finnish are invited to participate in a Finnish language chart. This chart is not required if the applicant has one of the following certificates:
- School Leaving Certificate from a Finnish comprehensive school (Finnish as a mother tongue or Finnish as a foreign language grade 8)
- Vocational Qualification Certificate (qualification completed in Finnish)
- National Certificate of Language Proficiency ( level 3 )
A copy of the certificate must be submitted to the College.
The student must have a valid residence permit or he/she can submit a residence permit application after being admitted to begin studies in SAMI. The application is submitted the Finnish Embassy in the country of legal residence. If your country of residence is Finland, the application is submitted to the local police department.
In addition, SAMI provides language training and preparatory training for immigrants with permanent residence in Finland.
